„Manja Chmièl – Rebellin des Neuen Tanzes“ – Buchpräsentation
Manja Chmièl (1922-2006) war ihrer Zeit weit voraus. Als Assistentin von Mary Wigman wandte sie sich 1962 vom Ausdruckstanz ab, um sich gleichberechtigt neben Neuer Musik, Literatur und abstrakten Künsten zu positionieren. Sie gründete ihre Gruppe Neuer Tanz Berlin, die erste freie Tanzkompanie Deutschlands. Warum wurde diese Neuerin des zeitgenössischen Tanzes bisher übersehen?
Zeitzeugin Irene Sieben rückt ihre einst wichtigste Lehrerin mit ihrem soeben erschienen Buch „Manja Chmièl – Rebellin des Neuen Tanzes“ ins Rampenlicht, und platziert sie neben Dore Hoyer als prägnante Erfinderin einer spezifischen Tanzsprache. Begleitet wird die Autorenlesung von Anna Till. Die Dresdener Tänzerin und Choreografin hat drei Soli von Manja Chmièl rekonstruiert. Eines wurde von dem Kinetografen Thomas Schallmann gemeinsam mit Manja Chmièl in Labanotation zu Papier gebracht.
Beim Screening historischen Filmmaterials kann das Publikum an diesem besonderen Abend u.a. die vergessene Tanzpionierin im Interview mit Walter Höllerer erleben, Avantgardist des Literaturbetriebs seit den 1960er Jahren und Gründer der Zeitschrift „Akzente“.
„Manja Chmièl – Rebel of contemporary dance“ – Book Launch
Manja Chmièl (1922–2006) was far ahead of her time. As Mary Wigman’s assistant, she turned her back on expressive dance in 1962 to position herself on an equal footing with new music, literature and the abstract arts. She founded her group Neuer Tanz Berlin, Germany’s first independent dance company. Why has this pioneer of contemporary dance been neglected until now?
Contemporary witness Irene Sieben brings her once most important teacher into the spotlight with her recently published book ‘Manja Chmièl – Rebel of New Dance’, placing her alongside Dore Hoyer as a defining innovator of a specific dance language. The author reading will be accompanied by Anna Till. The Dresden-based dancer and choreographer has reconstructed three solos by Manja Chmièl. One of these was transcribed into Laban notation by the kinetographer Thomas Schallmann in collaboration with Manja Chmièl.
During the screening of historical film footage, the audience can experience, among other things, the forgotten dance pioneer in an interview with Walter Höllerer, an avant-gardist in the literary world since the 1960s and founder of the magazine “Akzente”.
